Georgia to reactivate makeshift hospital at Atlanta convention center

Georgia to reactivate makeshift hospital at Atlanta convention center: Georgia is planning to reactivate a makeshift hospital for coronavirus patients built in the Georgia World Congress Center to cope with a sharp increase of severe cases of COVID-19. Gov. Brian Kemp’s office said Friday the state plans to hash out a new contract for more bed capacity with a metro Atlanta hospital before a part of the sprawling Atlanta convention center is re-converted into a medical facility. The reopening of the temporary hospital is a sign of Georgia’s worsening struggle with the disease. Georgia has set record numbers of new daily coronavirus cases several times over the last two weeks, and hospitalization rates have also soared. Some regions of the state report just a handful of available intensive care beds.
