Medicaid expansion boosts rural hospitals' margins: The median overall profit margin among not-for-profit critical-access hospitals in Medicaid expansion states increased from 1.8% to 3.7%, compared with a decrease from 3.5% to 2.8% among their peers in non-expansion states, a new study found.
